Kath Scott 2 weeks agoMy experience with Berman Skin Institute has been excellent over several years. Dr Melanie Choi and Dr Jordan Sternbach have treated my son’s acne. They explain everything clearly and invite questions. The front desk staff are friendly and efficient, as are the medical assistants. Highly recommended!
Bea Durant 3 months agoI have been a patient with Berman since 2021 when they first started administering my Dupixent medication. At the time, my eczema was so severe, I was wearing gloves 24/7 to cover my sore and oozing skin. After several months of being on Dupixent, the difference was like night and day. It was the first medication that alleviated my symptoms compared to other prescriptions I have had. However, as of late 2025, I learned that my insurance provider, BCBS FEP, was no longer covering Dupixent in 2026. I immediately scheduled an appointment with Berman to discuss my options with a provider. At first, the provider tried to submit a prior authorization for my Dupixent anyways. They also agreed to provide me with monthly samples in the meantime so I could continue my treatment while waiting to be re-prescribed Dupixent through my new insurance provider. Last Monday, March 23rd, I tried to call Berman’s office to schedule a time to pick-up a sample. No one answered so I left a voicemail. When no one returned my voicemail, I got in touch with a representative who told me they would follow-up on my behalf. On the second day, I left another voicemail. On the third day, I left another voicemail and still had not heard back so I got in touch with the same representative again who explained I needed to schedule an in-person appointment, so I did. At this point, I found it odd how no one on the medical assistant team found it appropriate to follow-up with me directly. Nonetheless, I scheduled an in-person appointment with the same provider as before for last Friday, March 27th. The appointment ended up being a huge slap in the face. The provider was condescending and impatient. They avoided Dupixent altogether and wanted me on a new ointment as an alternative. When I brought up that I just needed a sample, they became visibly irritated and said they could only give samples to patients who needed them. The whole appointment lasted about 10 minutes or less and I paid a $50 copay just to be disrespected. Mind you, Berman has been administering my Dupixent for almost 5 years now. The least they could have done was accommodate me with the samples since I do not feel comfortable going cold turkey nor trying some ointment I do not know the side effects of (because they will not even take the time to explain it to me). After all, am I not their patient too? I usually consider myself a patient and understanding person, but it has been a few days and I still cannot get over my most recent experience with Berman. I already do not have much trust in the healthcare system since I have been prescribed so many treatments by so many providers through the years for my eczema—I feel like a lab rat, but this has been the worst encounter I have had by far. I may not be an “expert”, but I have had eczema since I was a baby so I know my body and what works for me. TLDR; take it from me, someone who has been a patient with them since 2021—AVOID BERMAN SKIN INSTITUTE AT ALL COSTS. It is also so weird to me how their billing department never does their job either when it comes to providing itemized receipts. I hope the providers at Berman live with the guilt that they are horrible at their jobs and do not care about their patients for the rest of their lives just like I have to live with eczema for the rest of mines.
Michael Fittro 2 months agoMy first visit at Berman Skin Institute was excellent. First, admin staff were warm and welcoming and there were no surprises. Second, Dr. Jordan was caring, informative, and made the entire experience anxiety-free and I left with a better understanding of what my situation potentially was. It was great to feel listened to and understood by Dr. Jordan, especially given my chronic issue was not taken seriously elsewhere. His “bedside” manners are wonderful.
Rob Smith 6 months agoI have a fair amount of skin issues; Rocasea, Exema and Grovers Disease, so I am very picky about my dermatologist. When I find a good one, I stick with them. I had been seeing two other Dr's long enough to see them retire. When looking for a new skin doc last year, Ebu Scohy (my previous go-to person) recommended Dr. Malcom Pyles. Earlier in the year. I'd seen him on a news program talking about skin care for being in the sun, found the info he shared very helpful, and that this was a sign that I had found my next skin Doc. I've been seeing him and his medical assistant Hyomin for the last year. He is a graduate of Stanford, so my expectations were set pretty high; he and Hyomin definitely delivered. He and Hyomin were patient with my many concerns and questions, thorough with their assessment of my skin, and knowledgeable with their answers. On the medical side of things, they were spot-on! On the cosmetic side, I've had botox countless times with some of the best pros in the business. I had two treatments with Dr. Pyles so far. My results have not only looked better/ more natural than with other pros, but also produced the least amount of pain and bruises (actually "O" bruises, not sure how he does it, as I'm on a blood thinner). On a related note, I have a few friends who go to him for more serious cosmetic stuff, and they have nothing but positive things to say. I'm grateful (and relieved) to have found my go-to people, or at least till they retire:-) Thank you Dr. Pyles and Hyomin!
Biswa Nayak 3 months agoI had a very frustrating experience with Berman Skin Institute in San Francisco. I specifically scheduled a preventative skin exam after a referral from my PCP, but the visit was incorrectly billed as a standard office visit. Because of that error, I’ve been repeatedly sent bills that I should not be responsible for. What’s most disappointing is the complete lack of follow-through. I’ve called multiple times to explain the situation and asked them to correct and resubmit the claim to my insurance. Each time, I was told it would be handled, yet nothing has been fixed. Instead, I continue receiving incorrect bills requesting payment. This kind of administrative negligence is unacceptable, especially in healthcare where patients rely on accurate billing and clear communication. Patients should not have to chase a provider just to get a basic correction made. Until this is resolved, I cannot recommend this practice. If you go here, be prepared to closely monitor your billing and advocate for yourself.
