As always, seeing Dr. Bechtel for my annual examination went flawlessly. After 30 prior such examinations, I’ve come to expect that from him and the excellent staff that supports him. He saved my wife’s life from an adverse prescription drug reaction about two decades ago. Because of that and the excellent medical care and advice he provides to me and all of my extended family, we are all blessed to be in the care of the best Dermatologist in the state of Ohio.

Yesterday I arrived for only my second dermatologist visit in my life and it was almost a complete 180 from my previous visit to another provider further down Hamilton (ND). *I would like to state though, this review does not include the check-in process, which I'd probably give a 3.5-4. This was my first time in this building, and I didn't realize I would have to jump through hoops to even make it to the dermatology floor (I mean, at least we know it's secure!). I do wish when scheduling they would mention this process. The woman at the front desk, did not catch her name, but she was super nice and super helpful. Because I didn't receive a QR code or couldn't locate one, and had only received the app precheck-in paperwork approximately 12 hours before (overnight), I checked in at one of the desks to the far left of the main floor. This guy was okay - not much of a personality and/or didn't want to be at work - I get it, man. It was a pretty quick check-in process, though, and I made it to the elevator. Would recommend getting there at least 10 or 15 minutes early, especially because parking was also insane.* When I arrived on the 3rd floor, the woman at that desk was friendly and guided me to where I needed to go. A very small waiting area outside of the main office, but I did not wait long; it seems like they really do try to get you into your appointment on time. Jessica, the lovely woman who was the doctor's scribe/sidekick seemed a little introverted (same), but when my awkward self misheard something she said, it turned into laughs and a hilarious conversation, and now we are probably best friends for life. Dr. Ulman was quite possibly the nicest person I have ever met in my life. She was so chipper, and honestly I was envious of her energy and vibe. Jessica and the woman around the corner who checked me out from my appointment confirmed she is wonderful and always that happy. I also learned Dr. Ulman is a dog person, and honestly if she talked to her dogs like she talked to me, I would be her lifelong companion. Anyway, I could not be happier with Dr. Ulman's knowledge and thoroughness. She asked me questions, she explained what she was looking for, explained to me what I should look for at home, etc. Jessica took pictures, as well, so we can look back, because I have several moles and many freckles on my fair Irish-Italian skin, (plus, as an 80's/90's child, I don't think my parents believed in sunscreen, and we were outside 24/7). We decided removal of one small mole on my front side was necessary because my bra strap constantly rubbed and irritated it (ow). Boom zap gone. I had another mole on my back which seemed relatively new and was kind of a weird shape and I don't remember it always being there. Dr. Ulman took a little piece of that to be biopsied. If you don't like needles, sorry. In order to remove or take a piece, they must numb the area with a big old needle. Needles don't bother me, and I have a relatively high pain tolerance, it was the weird burning sensation that got me. It was kind of like OW what the heck?! After one stick on each area, I needed a half more on both because I could still feel the sharp needle. Then slice, cauterize, bandage, and I was good to go. Though I was pretty nude, I never once felt uncomfortable, or like I was being asked to do anything out of the ordinary. In fact, I go there because I want them to check every nook and cranny! Anyhow, totally recommend this group! And for some reason I look forward to my next visit in 9 months??

Dr Ulman is excellent. Good rapport, and clinical knowledge. She catches the little things before they turn into big things. 🙂Dr. Shipp and his nurse also did a great job with a recent out patient surgical procedure. I'm happy they are a part of my team!
